They are sold in hundreds of fabric or made of wood.  There are numerous colors, textures and patterns made available to choose from.  As you make your purchase, find models that are laid flat and require less straightening out.  Check the mechanism by pulling up the shade.  It is recommended to pick models that provide continuous cord loop, as they are more flexible and snapping is less likely to occur.  You should also remember that the effectiveness of your shade also depends on the color and weight of the material to make it work just as you want it to be.
